Ashwagandha (300 mg): An herbal adaptogen long used to aid in both physical and mental stress management, this can help to better manage stress by working to normalize the level of the stress hormone cortisol. A lowered level of cortisol results in less anxious-feelings, mental fatigue and feelings of sadness. It also serves to boost dopamine levels which increases motivation and memory.
- L-Theanine (200 mg): A naturally occurring amino acid found in green tea that supports healthy levels of GABA, serotonin, and may also boost dopamine, L-theanine promotes emotional regulation, alertness, attention, and energy. Its natural calming effect can also aid with sleep and can discourage vivid dreams.
- Magnesium AA Chelate (200 mg): Often used to augment psychiatric medications for mood disorders, magnesium can help to boost your mood and can have a slightly sedative effect. This may help to decrease time to fall asleep and improve quality of sleep. The chelated form of Magnesium used in the Mental Fitness Formula is better absorbed and easier on the gut than the oxide or citrate form that can lead to diarrhea.
- 5-MTHF (1 mg): Some individuals have a genetic mutation called the MTHFR gene where they cannot convert folic acid from their diet to the active form: L-Methylfolate (LMF). Determining if you have this genetic mutation is only made available through genetic testing which can be expensive. Individuals may be deficient in folic acid without being aware. This nutrient deficiency can have a negative impact on mental health because LMF is a core ingredient for the synthesis of neurotransmitters: dopamine, serotonin, melatonin, and norepinephrine. By providing your body with the active form, the difficulty converting folic acid is no longer an issue.
